Well those of you who are members of our For Love And Business Community on Facebook already know this and they have known about this for a while… But this is the OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
I am really, REALLY excited to be telling you all about our new event this fall, called The Business Sisters Conference. It’s going to be taking place on Saturday, November 3 at the Glengarry Sports Palace right here, in Alexandria.
If you know my background from my meetings industry days, you know that I absolutely LOVE to bring people together and have them share their stories. While running our Glengarry Women Entrepreneurs Network mastermind groups, for instance, for the last two years, I’d been thinking about doing something for a larger group of women, in THIS area.
Because I have been uncovering some absolutely INCREDIBLE female business owners, some with really unusual niches, and many who are incredibly successful, on their own terms.
And you know what?
Many of them don’t know about one another!
And that’s a shame because they’re toiling away at their business, often times stressing about stuff from accounting to marketing, and to how to manage their family demands and deal with unexpected things like snow days and sickness…
Now if they were in Ottawa or Montreal or Toronto, as women entrepreneurs, they’d have dozens and even hundreds of different events they could attend to network, and create a supportive group around them. In the country, unfortunately, we have very little.
And that’s the main reason I decided to create this event:
Because women in small towns and rural areas deserve quality networking and business education opportunities.
Of course we can drive to the nearest city or hop on a webinar at any time. But there’s something magical that happens when you are interacting in person, with people who understand where you’re coming from.
And in our case, it’s understanding what it’s like to own a business that’s literally 24-7, like some of our farming women, for instance. Or people who understand what it’s like to have to drive 30-50 km just to get to the nearest Staples! People who understand what it’s like to have a business in a town where everyone knows you or thinks they know you — because it’s a really small community.
This event will be drawing women from my home county, that’s Glengarry, and the rest of Stormont and Dundas. As well as lots of women, hopefully, from Prescott-Russell, Cornwall, Brockville, Kingston and hopefully Western Quebec and parts in between.
We welcome our Business Sisters from the larger centres with open arms!
Because we can absolutely learn from one another. And the education is going to be top-notch no matter where you’re from.
We need to get to know each other, because as a group, we are incredibly strong. In some of our communities like Alexandria and Vankleek Hill, women entrepreneurs are leading the way in revitalizing our main streets with really cool businesses and events.
And whether in the country or the city, women are starting businesses at 1 and ½ times the rate of men. Did you know that?
Anyway, The Business Sisters Conference is going to be a very collaborative event, with lots of “from the trenches” stories and actionable strategies. So I hope you can join us!
