It is with great pride and pleasure that we announce the renewal of support from the Eastern Ontario Training Board (EOTB) for The Business Sisters Conference!
With The Business Sisters delivering business education to established and new women business owners, the EOTB was eager to help. “An event like this helps us engage with the local community, better understanding needs and important trends,” explained Martha Woods, Executive Director of the EOTB. “We saw the great work that was done last year, so we are pleased to return as Presenting Partners again in 2019,” she added.
How the EOTB and helps business owners
The Board’s core priorities focus on labour force development. They help create opportunities to address local labour market challenges in all five counties of Eastern Ontario. This includes supporting events and activities that promote education, training and skills upgrades to youth, parents, employers, as well as workers.
A key initiative of the EOTB is to provide the community with information that can assist in business decision-making and planning. For instance, LabourMarketInfo.com provides information about labour market trends and outlooks for occupations and industries in Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell and Akwesasne.
Another annual project is the EmployerOne Survey, a “pulse-taking” of employers’ hiring intentions and satisfaction with labour market supply. Highlights of the 2018-2019 survey (which was distributed in part to the Business Sisters community after our event in 2018), included confidence in the local economy, with 81% of respondents anticipating hiring in the coming year. At the same time, employers expressed concern about labour shortages and the availability of professionals, managers and skilled trade workers being of the greatest concern.
Both initiatives represent potentially valuable information for anyone looking to benchmark their business or become self-employed in an area of need!
